Art is considered to be an integral part of the curriculum because it allows pupils to express themselves in a creative way. We encourage all pupils to take a pride in their art work.
At Wells we provide the children with a wide variety of art activities. Each year the children build on the skills that they have learnt in the previous year. The art curriculum at Wells enables the children to find out about the work of different artists as well as developing their own artistic skills. Pupils have the opportunity to experiment with a range of mediums such as: sketch pencils, charcoal, watercolours, oil pastels, acrylic paint and Batik.
Many of the art projects at Wells are linked with others areas of the curriculum, for example the children in Years 3 and 4 will draw and paint Grecian pots to complement their topic work on Ancient Greece. In ICT the children use a range of art programmes such as Revelation Art and 2Simple. To ensure that children are equipped for the modern world, we encourage them to develop their art skills both on and off screen.
We like to celebrate the children’s art work by displaying it within the classrooms and school hall as well as presenting Achievement Awards for outstanding art works in assemblies. We regularly enter school, local authority and national competitions to encourage pupils to be proud of their work.
Art club is offered to children on a rolling programme and is extremely popular. We try to ensure that as many children as possible are able to participate.
