myHappyMind
As part of our continued commitment to supporting pupils’ personal development, we use myHappyMind, a structured wellbeing programme grounded in science that teaches children practical strategies to understand their brain and emotions, develop resilience and build positive lifelong habits.
myHappyMind introduces pupils to simple, age-appropriate neuroscience and equips them with tools such as calming techniques, gratitude practices and approaches to building healthy relationships. These skills support pupils’ readiness to learn and complement the wider emotional support already in place across the school that enables them to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
myHappyMind Teaching
myHappyMind is taught throughout the year across five key modules, each introducing new ideas and practical strategies that support children’s mental health and wellbeing. The programme is delivered through assemblies and a 20-minute weekly lesson taught by class teachers. Children also have their own myHappyMind journal, where they can record and reflect on their learning after each session.
All staff at Wells Primary School are trained in the myHappyMind approach, enabling the language and strategies from the programme to be reinforced consistently throughout the school day to create a shared understanding and embed wellbeing habits as part of everyday school life.
Meet Your Brain
In this module, children learn how their brain works and how to look after it. They explore simple strategies for managing emotions, developing a growth mindset, and understanding what helps them to feel calm and in control so that they can be at their best.

Celebrate
This module focuses on helping children recognise their unique Character Strengths. By understanding and celebrating what makes them special, pupils build confidence and develop healthy self-esteem.
Appreciate
Children learn about the importance of gratitude and how practising appreciation can support emotional resilience. This module helps pupils to form positive habits that contribute to long-term wellbeing.
Relate
This module teaches children about the building blocks of positive relationships. Pupils explore how to develop healthy friendships, communicate kindly, and understand the importance of empathy.

Engage
In this module, children learn how to set meaningful goals and persevere when faced with challenges. They explore different ways to stay motivated and resilient, supporting both their learning and personal growth.
Staff and Pupil Voice
Feedback from across the school shows the strong, positive impact myHappymind is having on pupils’ wellbeing and classroom culture. Teachers report that 100% of pupils now understand more about how their brain works and can talk about their Character Strengths, with all staff also using character-based praise in daily teaching. Calming strategies are making a real difference too, with 89% of teachers noticing benefits from Happy Breathing and many using it to help pupils settle after busy transitions.
Staff have also observed wider changes in wellbeing habits, including more gratitude being shared in classrooms (100%), children expressing gratitude for people around them and their experiences (75%), and improvements in Active Listening and positive relationship-building (80%).
Pupils have said:
“We use Happy Breathing after break to calm down and prepare for our learning.“
“I like the quizzes, Happy Breathing and learning about it.”
“I like writing about my emotions in my journal and listening to the songs.”
Families and the myHappyMind Parent App
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. As part of myHappyMind, families can access the free myHappyMind Parent App, which provides helpful information about what children are learning in school, as well as ideas and activities to try at home. This shared language and understanding helps children embed the wellbeing habits they learn in school.
The app also includes a range of supportive resources for families, such as the myHappyMind podcast and a series of Mini Masterclasses on topics including separation anxiety, sleep, emotional-based school avoidance and other common wellbeing challenges. These short, accessible guides are designed to help parents feel informed, confident and able to support their child’s emotional development at home.
