Fourth Year of Sports Premium Funding 2016/2017
During 2016/2017 we will receive £8894 which we will continue to use to promote and improve the sporting opportunities of our pupils.
Last year (2014/2015) we received £9,355. Which was spent as detailed below.
Our PE provision continues to improve, we have been working hard to expand our links with local sports clubs. Particularly Crostyx, our local hockey club, who have supplied us with a former England hockey coach to train our KS2 pupils. This has benefited our pupils as many of them now belong to a hockey club held at the weekend.
With regards to sustainability of our spending, the investment into our playground and our sports equipment, will ensure that all future pupils will have the same opportunities as our current cohort receive now. By up-skilling our teachers, we are investing into our staff, leading to an increase in the delivery of our PE curriculum not just this year, but in years to come. However, this can only be maintained with the continued financial support of the Sports Premium Fund.
Second Year of Sports Premium Funding 2014/2015
Wells made the development of PE a school development priority for 2013-14 and we have been able to maximise the sports funding grant to achieve the required outcome. The continuation of this grant into 2014-15 has enabled the school to further embed our strategic plan to develop PE in a sustainable way. The main objectives being to:
- enhance and improve the quality of teaching and learning
- increase sporting opportunities
- increase competitive opportunities both within school and between schools
- build partnerships with other schools and our local sports club.
The use of the £9355 Sports Funding for 2014-15 has been allocated as follows:
£4000 for the continued employment of a specialist gymnastics/dance coach, two days a week (funded partly by the sports funding, partly by the school’s budget);
£2000 for team teaching and training for teaching staff;
£2600 for extra teaching capacity for sports lessons and participation in a wider range of events, including cycle training;
£400 for hire of tennis courts, athletics track at local sports club;
£500 for extra equipment;
£200 for continued development of junior play leaders.
The Sports Funding has enabled us to improve our CPD for staff. All NQTs and other staff have benefited from team teaching with experienced teachers whilst partnership working with secondary schools and specialist coaches has also enhanced learning opportunities. New teaching resources have also been purchased to help plan for pupils working at different levels of ability.
We are pleased to continue to forge closer sporting links with our local secondary school: pupils have participated in inter-school competitions hosted by Woodbridge High School; Woodbridge students have helped train our Junior Play Leaders; Woodbridge students have led presentations on healthy eating and supported our pupils at sports events. Wells has also been granted access to use the Woodbridge all-weather pitch for football matches, an invaluable opportunity given our limited facilities. We hope that this partnership will go from strength to strength for the benefit of all pupils involved.
The Sports Premium funding has also enabled us to make greater use of our local sports club. We have been able to continue to give a higher priority to athletics and tennis for the current academic year and hope to be able to sustain this provision.
To complement our drive to improve our sporting opportunities, the School Council at Wells Primary School has been working towards developing a stronger ‘House’ system. By strengthening allegiance to a particular ‘House’, we believe that we can encourage pupils to participate in a range of sporting activities and encourage a healthily competitive sporting spirit.
In recent years Wells has worked hard to increase its participation in competitive sporting events. The additional sports funding will enable the school to build on this. We continue to participate in competitive gymnastics, swimming, netball, basketball, athletics and footballing events alongside other local schools.
Pupils at Wells are already benefiting from the impact of the Sports Premium; we are determined that PE will remain high profile so that our pupils are equipped with the skills to lead healthy, active lives.
